The Legend
It is said that the name “Soran” comes from an ancient peak that dominates these valleys, in the ridges of the Brenta Dolomites, a high, silent place far from the life of the valley.
In ancient times, right among these mountains, the story of two young lovers divided by their families unfolded. The young man was sent away and taken to live in solitude toward the heights of Soran, while the young woman remained in the valley floor, where the 17th-century house stands today.
There, among isolated pastures and deep silences, the young man looked down toward the valley every evening. In an attempt not to lose the bond with his beloved entirely, he began to follow the natural course of the water descending from the peak of Soran, until he found a way to “speak” with her through the landscape itself.
It is said that he channeled that small stream of water so that it could descend to the valley floor, transforming it into a discreet sign of their bond: a continuous message between the peak of Soran and the valley below.
Over time, that stream reached the very place where the 17th-century house stands today, and it still feeds the fountain at the entrance to the establishment, which continues to flow without interruption.
It is said that the name Soran remained precisely to recall that bond between the peak and the valley, between distance and connection, between what is above and what lives below.
Even today, those who pause before the fountain hear the same sound: that of a message that has never stopped traveling.
An Alpine tale born among the peak, the water, and time.
